These were the beers from the Daring Discovery Box of April 2023:
1. Viven Champagner Weisse (Witbier, 4.8% ABV)
Viven Champagner Weissen was first launched during the 2018 holiday season as an answer to the standard dark, sweet and rather heavy end-of-year beers. This wheat beer is brewed with champagne yeast. This creates a spicy aftertaste and sparkling, but very fine carbonation.
2. Palja's season (season, 6% ABV, 23 IBU)
Paljas Saison is a summer tasting beer of high fermentation and refermentation in the bottle. The typical Saison yeast converts all sugars, making this a very drinkable beer. The use of wheat and specially selected hops provides extra freshness. This beer is therefore hopped 3 times, including with Citra hops, which gives an extra fruity citrus touch to this delicious light blond beer.
3. Chapter Watou Aged (Brown Ale, 7.7% ABV)
With Kapittel Watou Aged, Leroy Brewery has for the first time allowed a beer to mature in a tank for 30 months (so it is - unfortunately? - no Barrel Aged beer, but an 'ordinary' aged beer).
The result: An aroma with a fruity touch followed by a fresh rounded taste with sweet and sour notes and a hint of blueberry.
4. Mareklop Double (Double, 8% ABV)
A red-brown beer with an alcohol content of 8%, the foam is light cream-coloured. Fruity aroma, taste is malty and especially candy that lingers for a long time in the aftertaste.
5. Flying Pig (Strong Blonde, 9% ABV, 21 IBU)
Het Vliegend Varken is a top-fermented blond beer with refermentation in the bottle. The 9% alcohol and the dry hopping technique ensure that this beer is a real taste bomb. The beautiful white foam retains the aromas of this characterful beer so that you immediately notice that you are holding something special even before you have taken a sip. Perfect for the real beer lover.
6. Schalkse 10 Tripel (Tripel, 10% ABV)
High fermentation blond beer, with refermentation in the bottle. White, creamy head that stays long
Complex aroma of spices (cloves, coriander, ...), fruit (especially citrus, zest of bitter orange and to a lesser extent lemon, peach). Comes across as fresh despite the high alcohol content.
